The purpose of the Chief Directorate is to develop content for the Department.

Functions: 

  • Providing language services such as translation, editing, proofreading and writing.  
  • Managing the development of government website and departmental websites.
  • Providing government news and information to the media at large.
  • Producing Vuk'uzenzele, CovComms and Public Sector Manager magazine.

The Directorate is responsible for the production of Vuk’uzenzele, GovComms and Public Sector Manager magazine.

The functions of the Directorate includes:

  • Producing Vuk'uzenzele newspaper, Public Sector Magazine (PSM).
  • Publishing monthly editions of Vuk'uzenzele newspaper and PSM.
  • Coordinating editorial planning of Vuk'uzenzele and PSM.
  • Participating in the editorial planning of other products and platforms in the chief directorate.

Directorate: Editorial and Language Services

The directorate provides language services such as writing, editing, proofreading and translation. It is also responsible for the production of the annual South Africa Yearbook and Official Guide to South Africa.

Other functions of the directorate include producing publications in support of major campaigns such as the State of the Nation Address and the National Orders.

The functions of Digital Media are:

  • updating, maintaining and improving the www.gov.za and Government Communication and Information System websites
  • updating and maintaining the South African Government and GCIS social media accounts
  • providing advice and support to other government departments on websites and social media.
