Terry Vandayar was born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and matriculated in 1983. He completed a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering at the ML Sultan Technikon (Durban Institute of Technology) and the Management Advancement Programme (MAP) at Wits Business School (WBS). He also completed the BPub Admin (Hon) from the Stellenbosch School of Business Leadership (SBL).
He moved to Johannesburg in 1987 to start his career in Information Technology (IT). His career in IT in the private sector spans across the IT Services, Financial and Telecom industries. His focus was initially in IT services and infrastructure support.
In his career he has enjoyed exposure and growth in companies like Unisys SA; Nedcor Bank Ltd; National Data Systems (now Bytes Technology Group) and Vodacom.
Terry joined the Public Service in January 2001 as the Director: Information Technology. In January 2002 he was promoted to Chief Information Officer (CIO): Information Management and Technology. As a Government IT Officer (GITO) he is a member of the GITO Council and is involved with IT related initiatives across government.
Terry lives in Johannesburg and is married with two sons. He has been working in the IT industry for 35 years of which the last twenty-one have been in public service.
