Government sends its sincere congratulations to HOT 102.7 FM for being honoured as a finalist in four categories at the 2023 New York Festivals Radio Awards in the United States. The Awards celebrates world-class storytellers from around the globe and honours creative innovation and excellence in broadcast and audio content across all genres and platforms.
HOT 102.7 FM was the only South African radio station to feature at the New York Festivals Radio Awards. The four finalists were: Joburg’s Hottest Breakfast Show, for ‘Best Music/Personality Show’ in the Morning Drive/Afternoon Programming category; the Hot 102.7 FM station sound for ‘Best Station ID Imaging’; and two entries from the News department – ‘Best News Documentary/Special’ for the ‘Jenny Boekwurm’ series and ‘Best News Special Report’ for ‘The Bully Chain’.
This achievement comes hot on the heels of HOT 102.7 FM receiving 13 nominations at the 2022 SA Radio Awards, where it won the ‘My Station – Most Votes’ award. The station was also named the winner in the ‘Best Local Radio Station’ category at the Best of Joburg Readers’ Choice Awards 2022.
Government Communication and Information System Acting Director General, Michael Currin, said: “This is fantastic news. We are proud of that station’s achievements and for flying the South African flag high on a global platform. The radio station was launched in July 2021, and in a short space of time, it is already competing against industry players from over 30 countries. This achievement bears testimony of the ability of South African media to compete on global platforms. The media personalities and journalists from HOT 102.7 FM, demonstrated their skill by keeping viewers informed and engaged in an ever-changing, technology driven, fast-paced world.”
