Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), invites members of the media to a panel discussion on mitigating and raising awareness on sexual exploitation of children in South Africa through online platforms. The discussion hosted in partnership with the Film and Publications Board will take place on Wednesday, 6th November 2023.
The core mandate of the FPB is to classify media content and educate the public on the importance of adhering to age ratings on films they watch, games they play and certain publications they consume. The organisation regularly conducts public awareness and educational campaigns with stakeholders within the information and communication technology sector. Online sexual abuse of children is one of the key programme of the organization.
Online sexual exploitation of children is a topical issue currently following several arrests by the South African Police Service. This panel discussion will reflect on the depth of the issue, explore possible solutions and community involvement with representatives of the South African Police Service, UNESCO South Africa and MOSAIC, an organisation that empowers women and girl survivors of domestic violence and abuse by creating enabling environments for them and supporting them through their healing journey.
