Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Kenny Morolong continued to lead service delivery initiatives in celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy in KwaZulu Natal province, following a successful conclusion of the educational guided tour at Inanda, Durban.
Accompanied by KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Education, Sipho Hlomuka, District Mayor, local Mayor, Deputy Mayor from uMgungundlovu District Municipality and representatives of the business sector (MTN) and senior officials of the Department of Communication and Digital Technologies, the Deputy Minister visited Open Gate Special School, a school with special educational needs, leading the official opening of the MTN Schools Connect initiative.
The visit to the school coincides with the commemoration of Disability Rights Awareness Month, which offers an opportunity for the society to remove social barriers and perceptions to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.
The Deputy Miniter also visited households that benefitted from Set-Top-Box installations and mobilise qualifying community members set top boxes. Government in partnership with USAASA is involved in the broadcasting of Digital migration, a project, that subsidises indigent households with Set-Top-Boxes.
The Deputy Minister also visited the uMgungundlovu community radio station, emphasising that government will continue to support community media as they are the voice of the community, reaching out to the masses.
Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities together with the KZN Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hosted a stakeholder engagement with the victims of Gender-Based Violence in eThekwini Metro, which, among others, addressed the creative industry as a vehicle to highlight the impact of violence against persons with disabilities, sex workers, LGBTQIA+, and women and children.
To conclude the activities of the day, Deputy Minister Morolong led a taxi rank activation to engage the community and mobilize them to take part in celebrating 30 Years of Freedom.
