The Government Communication and Information System in partnership with the South African Depression and Anxiety Group will on the Wednesday, 16th of March 2022, host a webinar on Destigmatizing Men’s Mental Health. Experts, Psychiatrist Dr. Fran Korb and Clinical Psychologist Zamo Mbele will be unpacking the topic of Men’s Mental Health. Guest speaker, Chris Debraine will share his own personal account of living with mental illness as a male.
South Africa is currently facing a heightened rate of mental health cases where mental health conditions and emotional turmoil experienced by many lead to an increased rate of suicide. The webinar serves to sensitize the public about the importance of mental health and to explore the impact of toxic masculinity on the mental health of men and to encourage men to open up and seek necessary help.
The following issues will be addressed:
- Unpack factors contributing to an increase suicide rates amongst men
- How to unpack suicidal ideation amongst men escalating in South Africa.
- Toxic masculinity and its impact on men’s mental health
- Recommendations of healthy coping mechanisms and encourage men to open up about mental health issues
