Members of the media are invited to submit their entries for the 2016 SADC Media Awards Competition and the closing date for is 29 February 2016.

The SADC Media Awards were established in 1996 following a decision by the Council of Ministers to establish a sector that deals with matters relating to amongst others, information, culture and sport. These awards serve as part of ensuring a link, coordination and synchronisation between formal structures of SADC governments, civil society, academia, labour and the media.

The Deputy Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams (MP) will lead the closing ceremony of the National Imbizo Focus Week at Marhambeni Village, King Sabata Dalinyebo Municipality in the OR Tambo District in the Eastern Cape, on Sunday 6December 2015.

From the 30^th November 2015, Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers, Premiers, and MECs and Mayors embarked on the National Imbizo Focus Week to engage directly with communities on government plans, programmes and projects.

Deputy Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will give a message of support to the National Prosecution Authority- led Imbizo and later host the Christmas party for the elderly in Diepsloot as she continues with the second part of the Imbizo.

The Deputy Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni Abrahams will collaborate with National Prosecution Authority to roll out the Imbizo Focus Week programme on Friday 4^th December 2015 in Diepsloot, JHB, Gauteng.

Minister of Communications Ms Faith Muthambi will attend the International Development Cooperation meeting on Gender and Media from the 7^th to 10^th December 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Minister will also give an opening statement and chair panel discussions on issues of gender and media at the conference.

As the country approaches the festive season, road safety continues to be an issue of concern to government. Many lives are continuously lost as a result of road accidents.

The recently reported tragic accident on the R18 near Vereeniging where 19 people reportedly died is just one very unfortunate example. 

Acting Cabinet Spokesperson, Phumla Williams said: “Transport Month may have passed, however, the message of government for road users to exercise extreme caution lives on.

Cabinet has today made public the Presidential Handbook as approved in the Cabinet meeting of 18 November 2015. The release of the Presidential Handbook is also in terms of the commitment given to Judge Sutherland on 12 October 2015 to publish the Handbook before 30 November 2015.

The Presidential Handbook provides guidelines for the administrative, logistical, security and general support services to be rendered by the state to the President, his or her spouse and dependent children, and the Deputy President and his or her spouse.

Government will embark on the National Imbizo Focus Week from the 30th November to 6th December 2015 to engage with communities and various stakeholders. Izimbizo are a two-way unmediated and interactive information sharing platforms, a dialogue between government and people giving credence to a participatory democracy.
