Government announces an extension of the "Building the legacy" exhibition

Government invites the public to visit the “Building the Legacy” exhibition at the Tshwane Events Centre in Pretoria. The exhibition is part of the “20 years of Freedom” campaign.
The exhibition opened in Tshwane on the 31st of January 2014 and has now been extended until 16 February 2014 due to increased demand. Visitors are welcome from 9am to 5pm every day.
Government condemns use of children during protests

Government has noted with concern a trend of using children as human shields during protests. This after a group of teenagers allegedly led a group of protesters who wanted to burn down a police station as well as other municipal offices in Bronkhorstspruit, near Pretoria.

Deputy Minister Obed Bapela bids farewell to outgoing MDDA board members

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Obed Bapela will on 31 January 2014, bid farewell to outgoing Board members of Media Diversity and Development Agency and also welcome and introduce a new board member. The two outgoing board members, Ms Nadia Bulbulia and Ms Nothando Migogo respectively, whose terms expired in December 2013, have immensely contributed to the smooth running of the board.
Deadline extended for submission of entries for the MDDA-Sanlam Local Media Awards

Sanlam and the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA), co-sponsors and organisers of the MDDA-Sanlam Local Media Awards, have extended the deadline for submission of entries for the 2013 community journalism competition. The new deadline for entries is now Friday, 14 February 2014.
The call for entries for the Awards was issued in early December although the competition is open for work published or broadcast from 1 January to 31 December 2013.

Government welcomes Molekoa sentencing

Government welcomes the South Gauteng High Court sentencing of Mokolo Molekoa, a former member of the South African Police Force. Molekoa was sentenced to 284 years plus five life terms in jail, after being found guilty of 16 charges of rape. He was also convicted of other charges including kidnapping and robbery.
