Statement on Cabinet meeting of 31 January 2001

At its meeting today, Cabinet continued the process of preparations for the State of the Nation Address by President Thabo Mbeki to be presented in Parliament on 9 February. Debate on the Address will take place on 13 and 14 February, with the President’s closing remarks on Thursday, 15 February. During the week of 12 - 16 February, clusters of Ministers will brief the media on details of the government’s programme for the year.

Launch of Kgautswane MPCC: 10 March

Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), Northern Province government, the community of Kgautswane and other stakeholders will launch Kgautswane Multi-purpose Community Centre (MPCC) on Friday 10 March 2000. (see programme) The Minister in the Presidency, Dr Essop Pahad, will deliver a keynote address. The Northern Province Premier, Ngoako Ramatlhodi and the Minister of Public Works, Stella Siqcau, will be among dignitaries attending.

GCIS parliamentary media briefing week: 11 - 15 February

The GCIS media briefings will be held from 11 - 15 February 2002. The briefings are traditionally held after the State of Nation Address and the second recess of parliament. This time the briefings will be held in cluster format. The ministers will outline in detail the government's programme of action for each cluster for the year to the media. The briefings will be held as follows:

Opening of George MPCC: 18 May


14 May 2002

All media are invited to the opening of the George Multi-Purpose Community Centre (MPCC) in the Western Cape Province. The Western Cape Department of Social Services has invested R 5 million via the George Municipality for the construction of the MPCC. The centre has been in operation since August last year.

An MPCC is a one-stop centre where local, provincial and national government, as well as other services are provided and relevant information to local communities.
