Official Women’s Day Commemoration

Members of the media are advised that President Jacob Zuma will deliver a keynote address at the Women’s Day Commemoration on 09 August 2014 at King Zwelithini stadium under the theme, “Celebrating 60th Anniversary of Women’s Charter and 20 Years of Freedom: Together moving a non-racial, non-sexiest South Africa forward”.

Government has noted media reports which highlight the private business interests of President Jacob Zuma and members of the executive. To this end, Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Members of Parliament have until August 15 to make full declarations of their business interests to Parliament.

Communications Minister Honourable Faith Muthambi sends her deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Sowetan’s Limpopo bureau veteran photo-journalist, Elijar Mushiana.

Mushiana died aged 41 on Sunday, July 27 2014 at Medi-Clinic in Polokwane after a short-illness.

1. Cabinet’s position on current issues

1.1 Cabinet welcomes the launch by President Jacob Zuma of Operation Phakisa, which fast-tracks delivery through detailed implementation plans, problem-solving and practical actions to drive growth. The Department of Environmental Affairs will be the first department to lead collaboration with the industry, labour, civil society and academia to work together to unlock the economic potential of our oceans.

South Africa has sent a 187 strong member team to participate in the 2014 Commonwealth Games taking place from 23 July to 3 August 2014 in Glasgow City, Scotland. The games are another chance for South Africans to rally behind our sporting heroes and heroines. 
Sporting events have always served to unite the country as was the case during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the 2012 Olympics and the 2013 Orange Africa Cup of Nations and the recently held African Championship of Nations.

The Minister of Communications, Ms Faith Muthambi MP, will address members of the media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held today (23/07/14) in Cape Town.
