Public encouraged to use park-and-ride facilities

Members of the public are advised that the lying-in state will commence from 11 to 13 December at the Union Buildings, where ordinary South Africans and guests will be given an opportunity to pay their last respects to former President Nelson Mandela at the Union Buildings.

The City of Tshwane has activated park-and-ride facilities for the public at the Tshwane Events Centre, LC De Villiers Sports Facility in Hatfield and Fountains Valley Park to the Union Buildings.

Media arrangements for the lying in state

Media are advised that the Lying in State for former President Nelson Mandela will take place from tomorrow, 11th December to Friday 13th December at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

There will be a media bus service between 05h00 and 09h00 from the Tshwane City Hall to the Union Buildings. Parking will be provided at the Tshwane City Hall and only accredited media will have access to the bus service and the Union Buildings media centre.

The memorial service of the late ex- World Boxing Champion and SA Sport Legend Jacob Baby Jake Matlala will be held tomorrow.

People with physical challenges will be able to easily access public transport facilities to memorial service for former President Nelson Mandela

Pretoria – The morning of 10 December 2013 dawned with multitudes of South Africans and foreign nationals alike making their way to the FNB Stadium and other public viewing sites to pay homage to former President Nelson Mandela.

The national memorial event will be held at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg and the official proceedings will begin at 11h00.
