Members of the media are advised that due to the Cabinet meeting which is still in session, the Post-Cabinet briefing has been postponed to tomorrow (Thursday) not today as it was originally announced.The briefing will take place as follows:

Call for entries to 2007 SADC Media Awards


6 February 2007

The South African Chapter of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Media Awards calls for entries from journalists and media practitioners to the 2007 SADC Media Awards Competition. It is open to journalists and media practitioners who are South African Nationals and can submit as many entries as possible.

The purpose of the SADC Media Awards is to honour excellence in journalism in the region. The awards are in the fields of Print, Radio, Television and Photojournalism.

Clarification on legal costs for legal action by Minister of Health

Following a response to a question at the Post-Cabinet briefing today, the Government Spokesperson wishes to advise the media that the Minister of Health is taking legal action against The Sunday Times in her personal capacity and consequently will be covering legal costs herself.

Government to hold cluster media briefings: 27 - 31 August

Government will hold cluster media briefings on the implementation of the Government Programme of Action for 2007 in Cape Town from 27 to 31 August 2007.

This will be the third cycle of media briefings for the year. The briefings will take place at Imbizo Media Centre, 120 Plein Street, Cape Town. There will be a video link up at Room 153, Union Buildings, Pretoria.

Syrian Minister to hold press briefing: 31 August

The Syrian Arab Republic Minister of Information, His Excellency Dr Mohsen Bilal will today on his last day in the country address a press conference on his official visit to South Africa. Minister Bilal is in South Africa as a special envoy to deliver a message to President Thabo Mbeki from the Syrian Arab Republic President Bashar al-Assad and deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Dr Ginwala to issue statement on details of inquiry into fitness of Adv Pikoli to hold office of National Director of Public Prosecutions: 4 October

Media are informed that Dr Frene Ginwala will later today (Thursday, 4 October 2007), issue a statement regarding the details of the inquiry into the fitness of Advocate Vusumzi Pikoli to hold the office of National Director of Public Prosecutions. Dr Ginwala will not be able to brief the media as was earlier indicated.

Dr Ginwala appeals to media to refrain from calling her until the statement is issued.
