Ladies and gentlemen of the media good morning,
As is customary, the July Lekgotla focused on planning issues to inform the annual budgeting process which starts in earnest in August.
This is the first July Lekgotla in which such planning issues were presented within the framework of the outcomes approach, which we adopted to help us change the way government works to improve service delivery.

Cabinet held its ordinary meeting in Cape Town on 01 September 2010.
Cabinet expressed concern about the ongoing public sector strike and the negative effect it was having on public services. Cabinet urged the negotiators to find an amicable and ‘win win’ solution sooner so that life can return to normal for the thousands of South Africans who are unable to access essential services such as medical care and preparations for the end of the year examinations.

With only 38 days to go to the start of the final exams, Cabinet calls on all South Africans to rally behind the Class of 2010, to build their confidence and hope and to ensure that they become responsible and productive citizens of our country.

President Jacob Zuma yesterday convened a special Cabinet meeting to discuss the key economic challenges facing South Africa and endorsed a proposed new growth path for the country that will place employment at the centre of government economic policy. The new growth path is a broad framework that sets out a vision and identifies key areas where jobs can be created. Work will now be completed on a series of implementation plans for consideration and sign-off by Cabinet.

Cabinet held its last ordinary meeting of the year in Pretoria yesterday, 3 December 2008.
Cabinet expressed condolences to the family, friends and comrades of Dr Nthato Motlana who passed away on Monday morning. Dr Motlana will be remembered as a true veteran who was among those leaders who carried the torch of freedom when many other leaders were either incarcerated or in exile. The meeting called on all South Africans to observe the days of mourning as declared by President Motlanthe.
