Minister of Communications Ms Faith Muthambi to address the first inaugural Annual General Meeting of the Eersterus Community Radio at the Civic Centre in Eersterus, East of Pretoria on the 16th of September. ”Governance and sustainability of Community broadcasting is one of our key priorities as the Department”, said Muthambi.

1. Implementation of key government programmes
1.1. Cabinet is encouraged by the growth in the gross domestic product (GDP) of 3.3% in the second quarter of 2016; released by Statistics South Africa. The 8.1% increase in manufacturing and 11.8% in mining and quarrying demonstrates the resilience of the economy in this tough economic environment. The GDP grew by R25 billion more than the first quarter of 2016 to an estimated R1 068 billion.

We meet on the heels of the winter season and now as spring is upon us, scientists tell us there is no guarantee there will be sufficient rain during the coming season.

The on-going dry season and the upcoming summer months have an implication on what South Africa should expect in the medium to long term. This includes the relief efforts already underway and the implications going forward.

Government has noted with concern media reports on the resurgence of violent protests in some institutions of higher learning. Students are advised not to participate in activities that may place them in conflict with the law as they protest against fee increase at universities.
As government we would like to assure South Africans that the matter of student fees is receiving our full attention. We are working together with all parties concerned to find a lasting solution.

The Nine-Point Plan sets out the specific interventions for growing and transforming the economy, creating jobs and attracting investment. Improving policy coordination, infrastructure development, making it easier to do business in South Africa and boosting investment spending is creating an enabling environment for economic growth.

Eleven new non-executive directors have been appointed to the Board of SAA for a three year period starting from 1 September 2016. Ms Duduzile Cynthia Myeni, the current Chairperson of the Board of SAA, has been reappointed for a period of one year. Ms Mmakeaya Magoro Tryphosa Ramano will serve as the Deputy Chairperson.
