Government calls on all South Africans, international communities and civil society to play their part in recognizing and emulating the values of the first democratic President, Nelson Mandela, as the country celebrates his Centenary. President Cyril Ramaphosa declared 2018 the year of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela in his State of the Nation Address.

Government has scheduled the following briefings/activities for the week of 5 – 11 March 2018. The activities, which are aligned to the National Development Plan and outlined in the Medium Term Strategic Framework 2014-2019, are undertaken to build a better South Africa.

At its meeting at Tuynhuys in Cape Town on Wednesday, 28 February 2018, Cabinet echoed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s clarion call to South Africans to reaffirm a shared commitment to serve people as we continue to celebrate the centenary of the birth of former President Nelson Mandela.

1. National Budget Speech
1.1. Cabinet appreciates the overwhelming confidence expressed in the 2018 National Budget which was tabled in Parliament, Cape Town, last week. In the recent spirit of renewal that has gripped our great nation, Cabinet calls on all South Africans to partner with government to grow our economy and create much-needed jobs.
Minister of Communications Nomvula Mokonyane, will brief media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday 28 February 2018.

Government wishes to announce the postponement of the Cabinet meeting that was scheduled for this week.
The Media Development & Diversity Agency (MDDA) notes with extreme concern the violent robberies that have plagued the community media sector in recent weeks. The latest attack, which occurred over the past week on Cape Town TV, followed a similar incident involving Radio Mafisa in Rustenburg, North West Province, at the end of January 2018. Both Cape Town TV and Radio Mafisa were robbed of expensive broadcast equipment, while the personnel were held hostage and subjected to abuse and violence.
Government has scheduled the following media briefings / activities for the week of the 12th to 18th February 2018. The activities, aligned to the National Development Plan and detailed in the Medium Term Strategic Framework are undertaken to build a better South Africa.
