Government’s fifth National Imbizo Focus Week, 7-13 November 2016 opened today, following the theme “Together we move South Africa forward: “Our future – make it work“. All South Africans are encouraged to actively participate in the Imbizo events and engage with government. An informed and active citizenry is critical towards delivering the National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030. The NDP serves as a blueprint for the work that needs to be done to achieve a prosperous society for our country.

Government’s fifth National Imbizo Focus Week will be held between 7 and 13 November 2016, under the theme “Together we move South Africa forward: “Our future – make it work“. The National Imbizo Focus Week is in principle a heightened period of engagement between members of the executive and communities.

Government calls on marchers to respect the rule of law and the paramountcy of the Constitution in guiding all public participation and active citizenship and as such today’s activities demonstrate a strengthened democracy which is important for shaping the public discourse.

Government encourages public to watch Medium Term Budget Policy Statement

Government encourages all citizens to tune into their respective community radio stations to listen to the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) being delivered in Parliament. The MTBPS will also be broadcast live over a number of other mediums including SABC Channel 404, SABC 2, ANN7, eNCA, RSGFM, SAFM, IkwekweziFM, PowerFM and Radio702.

The Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan will table the MTBPS on Wednesday 26 October 2016 at 14h00.

This is the first time South Africa is hosting the joint sitting of Africa Editors from across the African Continent as well as Press Officers under the AU banner.
