2017 Freedom Day celebrations: 27 Apr

South Africa celebrates Freedom Day annually on the 27 April and the theme for this year is “The year of OR Tambo: Together deepening democracy and building safer and crime-free communities”.  The celebrations coincide with the centenary of the late President and national Chairperson of the ANC, Mr Oliver Reginald Tambo, an international icon and hero of the South African liberation struggle.

Deputy Minister Mahambehlala engages with youth at Imbizo Focus Week closing event: 23 Apr

The Deputy Minister of Communications Tandi Mahambehlala will engage young people of the metro as part of the post-SoNA programme and is aimed at galvanising society to actively participate in the implementation of the NDP as a roadmap towards radical socioeconomic transformation and social cohesion. Essentially the purpose is to engage youth and apprise them on government’s Programme of Action as announced during SoNA.

Media arrangements for High-level People-to-People Exchange Mechanism between South Africa and China

South Africa and the People’s Republic of China will launch the high level People-to-People exchange mechanism from 24-26 April 2017. The South African delegation will be led by Minister of Arts and Culture Mr Nathi Mthethwa. The Chinese delegation will be led by Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ms Liu Yandong.

Government welcomes the 2017 FDI Index ranking

Government welcomes the A.T. Kearney’s 2017 Foreign Direct Investment Confidence report, which indicates that South Africa is the 25th most attractive destination for foreign direct investment global, the first from the African Continent.

Improvements in short-term economic prospects and the long-term investment in the country’s manufacturing have been cited as some of the key drivers of South Africa’s improved rating on the Index.

Government will embark on the 6th National Imbizo Focus Week of the current Administration from 17 to 23 April 2017. President Jacob Zuma has declared 2017 as the year of Oliver Reginald Tambo. This year marks the centenary of the late President and national Chairperson of the ANC, an international icon and hero of the South African liberation struggle.
