The registration for the Set-top-Boxes for Broadcasting Digital Migration moved to another level in April when the department decided to kick-start door to door registration process for qualifying indigent households.

Qualifying residents of Kwaggafontein in Mpumalanga are set to be the latest beneficiaries of government-subsidised set-top-boxes.

1. Implementation of Key Government Programmes
1.1. The Fort Hare centenary celebrations which were officiated by President Jacob Zuma were a success. Hundreds of guests, including Alumni and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe as well as diplomats attended this prestigious milestone in South Africa’s history.

This coincided with Africa Month, which commemorates the founding of the then Organisation of African Unity, now called the African Union (AU).

Africa Day 2016 marks 53 years since the formation of the Organisation of African Unity on 25 May 1963 and the African Union in 2002. South Africa joins the entire continent in celebrating Africa Day with pride. The continent has advanced on many fronts especially in strengthening democracy, peace, stability and socio-economic development. Africa Day is an opportunity to celebrate African identity and heritage.

Government hosts successful centenary celebrations

Government and stakeholders have hosted a successful  centenary celebration event at the University of Fort Hare in Alice where President Zuma gave the keynote address.

The centenary alumni address was delivered by President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe. The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma also delivered a message of congratulations.

The event was attended by alumni, students, community members and dignitaries from across Southern Africa.

Government update on Fort Hare Centenary celebrations

Included in the briefing were disruptions that took place at the Alice campus of the university last evening, Wednesday 18 May 2016.
