MDDA-Sanlam Local Media Awards finalists announced

Sanlam and the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) have announced the finalists for the 2013 MDDA-Sanlam Local Media Awards following the conclusion of judging for both broadcast and print sections of the competition.
A total of 89 finalists have been selected from the 750 entries received for the 2013 Awards, with 64 for print and 24 in the broadcast section.

Preparations for the 2014 Presidential Inauguration

Government’s official plans for the Presidential Inauguration taking place on 24 May 2014 in the Nelson Mandela Amphitheatre at the Union Buildings are underway. Firstly, government wishes to clarify media reports on the budget allocation for the Presidential Inauguration.

In response to media questions last week about the cost of the Inauguration, government indicated at the time that the expenditure will be less than what has been spent on previous Inaugurations for different Presidents.

Government commends all South Africans for making the 2014 national and provincial elections a resounding success. The sight of millions of South Africans queuing to vote demonstrated a vibrant and maturing democracy. 

Acting GCIS CEO, Phumla Williams said, “The elections have served to renew and strengthen our democracy.  We are pleased by the great turnout in particular first time voters. Statistics from the IEC show that more people than ever before have chosen to exercise their right to vote”.

Government thanks voters for successful and peaceful elections

Government thanks the millions of South Africans who have voted in the country’s fifth democratic elections.  We appreciate the tolerance, dignity and patience with which voters conducted themselves as they waited to cast their vote.

This demonstration of active citizenship and patriotism was also visible on 30 April 2014 when thousands of people cast special votes at 116 South African missions abroad.
