Department of Communications to commemorate Mandela Day in Hammanskraal: 18 Jul

The Department of Communications will commemorate Mandela Day in Hammanskraal outside of Pretoria. The Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi and the staff will spend the day at Tender Loving Care Old Age Home and Tshwaraganang Orphanage.

Minister Muthambi and staff members will be cleaning up the old age home, cooking and gardening. The staff will further interact with the children at Tshwaraganang Orphanage and donate toys and food supplies.

Deputy Minister of Communications, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will hand over OpenView HD satellite television set installations at J.S. Skenjana Senior Secondary School in Idutywa and Milton Mbekela High School in Qunu on the 17 July 2014. The platform features various learning channels; therefore this intervention will enhance the learning experience and enable learners to be part of the digital global village.

Government saddened by the death of literary giant

Government is deeply saddened by the passing away of Nobel Prize-winning author Nadine Gordimer and offers its deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Gordimer, who died at the age of 90, was a political activist and a legendary author.  Her writing embodied her passion for the demise of apartheid, and focused on themes of love, hate and friendship under the pressures of the racially segregated system. She published her first book at the age of 15.

Government denies President’s alleged involvement in the appointment of SABC’s COO

Government has refuted as mischievous and misleading media reports that imply that President Jacob Zuma was involved in the appointment of SABC’s Chief Operations Officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Communications Minister, Faith Muthambi said “It is unfortunate that the media choose to vilify the President’s name when he has absolutely no role to play in the appointment of SABC management or staff for that matter.
