1. Implementation of Key Government Programmes
1.1. In improving the lives of our people, Cabinet welcomes the launch of the Ncora Bulk Water Treatment Works Project in the Eastern Cape by President Jacob Zuma. The R64 million water treatment plant is estimated to benefit 17 887 families from 208 villages in the four surrounding area. It has created 188 jobs, with local people, youth and women being major beneficiaries.

Relative calm returns to the city of Tshwane

Government is making notable progress in stabilising and stamping out acts of criminality in and around the City of Tshwane. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested 150 suspects in connection with various crimes such as public violence, burglary, theft, possession of unlicensed firearms and the possession of suspected stolen property.

This is attributed to the sterling work of the law enforcement agencies in cooperation with communities. Government condemns incidents of looting during protests

Government strongly condemns the recent incidents of looting and destruction of property that have been reported over the past weeks in areas that have been affected by protests across the country. This follows the latest riots and looting that took place in Diepsloot last night, where a police officer was killed, two others disarmed, an ambulance damaged and a fire department vehicle stoned. The protests were reportedly as a result of the community not having power and water for the past three days.

Government has noted that the sporadic violent protests are not confined only to the City of Tshwane but in other places in the country.
