President Jacob Zuma delivered the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) on Thursday, 14 February 2013 where he outlined government’s priorities and plans and set the tone for delivery in the year ahead.

Members of the media are invited to the post SoNA media briefing on Infrastructure Development and Job Creation. In attendance will be the Ministers of Trade & Industry, Dr Rob Davies; Labour, Ms. Mildred Oliphant and Transport, Mr Ben Martins.

The briefing will take place as follows:

Government has noted a planned illegal protest action by farm workers in the Western Cape, following a meeting at De Doorns yesterday by more than 1500 workers.

The Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in partnership with Bush Radio are hosting the 12th Media Kidocracy Konference (MKK) 2012 attended by 96 young South Africans, between the 10 - 14 December 2012 at Nekkies Resort and Conference Center in Worcester in the Western Cape.

Government is encouraged by an improvement in responses to the Parliamentary questions.

Government welcomes the ruling handed down by the North Gauteng High Court on the implementation of the Gauteng open road tolling system.

Government extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones during the recent floods in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga provinces, and noted with dismay the extensive damage caused.

Government has noted the reckless statements made by the chief economist at Pan African Investment and Research, Iraj Abedian, which were published by the Business Report regarding the alleged ‘absence of buy-in’ of the National Development Plan (NDP) by Ministers Ebrahim Patel and Rob Davies.

The South African Government congratulates the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, on receiving the international Renaissance Woman of the Year Award 2012.

Government has noted the mischievous and misleading score card on the performance of the Cabinet Ministers by the Democratic Alliance.

Acting Cabinet Spokesperson, Phumla Williams, slammed the DA score card, saying “Government has its own monitoring and evaluation systems through the Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation”.

Cabinet noted the report by the Department of Public Service and Administration on trends, progress made and the challenge experienced in meeting equity targets adopted for representation of women in Senior Management Service (SMS) level and people with disabilities in the Public Service as part of government’s transformation programme.
