Government calls upon all citizens who have not yet voted in the country’s fifth democratic elections to make their way to voting stations. Stations will close at 9pm and those queuing within the precinct will be allowed to vote.
We are pleased that South Africans in their millions have heeded the call to vote, and have conducted themselves in an orderly and respectful manner.

Government welcomes the update provided by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) at 11h00 today that shows that the 2014 national and provincial elections are well organised and proceeding peacefully. This affirms that our democracy remains strong and vibrant.
The IEC update at 11h00 assured the nation that with a handful of exceptions, voting stations around the country started on time.

Today, 7 May 2014 is a public holiday and government appeals to employers to allow employees time off so that they can exercise their democratic right to vote.

Members of the media are advised that the pre-accreditation online registration process is accessible on https://www.gcis.gov.za/content/media-registration. The deadline for the pre- accreditation process for the Inauguration event is Thursday, 08 May 2014 at 16h00.

Government reiterates its call to all South Africans to participate in the 2014 elections on Wednesday May 7.
In the spirit of the year-long celebration of 20 Years of Freedom, government joins the nation in anticipating a peaceful day of voting countrywide.
To help ensure this happens, Ministers in the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster have visited various parts of the country in the last two weeks to determine the state of readiness of the various security structures on the ground.
Two weeks ago, Government, through the Security Cluster Ministers, announced a detailed plan of ensuring that the elections on the 7th of May 2014 are not only free and fair but are peaceful and secured. The report from security agencies noted that the country is stable and the environment is conducive for successful elections, save for a few areas that have been flagged as hotspots.

Ministers of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS), will on Saturday, the 3rd of May visit Bekkersdal in Gauteng province in a bid to ensure stability ahead of the elections.
This is the seventh of a series of visits the ministers are conducting in different provinces; previous visits were conducted in the KwaZulu- Natal and Western Cape , Eastern Cape and Rustenburg in North West.

Ministers of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster conducted a visit to the election hotspots in the Western Cape in a bid to ensure stability ahead of the elections.
The visit was conducted on Wednesday 24 April 2014 and Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa led the delegation. Minister Mthethwa was joined by Minister of State Security, Dr Siyabonga Cwele, Minister of Correctional Services Sbu Ndebele, Minister of Defence Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and Minister of International Relations Nkoana Maite-Mashabane.

Ministers of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster visited the Eastern Cape as part of government efforts of ensuring peace and stability leading towards elections. The Ministers previously visited KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape provinces in the past few weeks.
