Pretoria – South Africa will this year observe the 10th anniversary of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign, which starts on 25 November (International Day of No Violence against Women) and close on 10 December 2009 (International Human Rights Day).
The name of one member was erroneously omitted yesterday when the Presidency announced the new members of the Board of Trustees of the International Marketing Council (IMC), to oversee the marketing of Brand South Africa.
The IMC was established in 2002. The mandate of the organisation is to develop and implement a pro-active and coordinated international marketing and communication strategy for South Africa.
Between May and July 2009, the Minister of Police and his protectors (as is required in terms of protection service procedures) stayed at Table Bay Hotel while in Cape Town. This was to allow for renovations that had to be done on the Minister’s house due to leakages which had resulted in flood damage to the house.
As part of its regular Cabinet meetings, Cabinet met yesterday and among the issues discussed was the current H1N1 Influenza pandemic. Cabinet decided to mount an enhanced national response to build on what has already been done so far by the Department, the Department Education, NICD and the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Country Office.
As the lead Department, the Department of Health wishes to outline what it is doing in this regard.
GCIS has noted, with concern and disappointment, the statement issued by the South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) regarding President Jacob Zuma’s visit to the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban last week Saturday, 25 July 2009.
According to the statement, GCIS excluded journalists from a number of media houses access to participate in the tour of the 2010 site.
The Government of the Republic of South Africa congratulates all those involved in making the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup a resounding success.
In particular, government congratulates the 2010 FIFA Organising Committee and the broader FIFA family, all the teams that took part in the tournament, the volunteers, service providers, officials and the fans for contributing towards the success of the tournament.
The preparations for the inauguration of the incoming President of the Republic are proceeding according to plan and about 5 000 dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony which will take place at the Union Buildings. About 30 000 people are expected to attend and witness the inauguration at the South Lawns of the Union Buildings, Pretoria.
Government acknowledges the important role that South Africans abroad played in the special voting last week thereby strengthening their bond with their compatriots at home as well as giving substance to the ruling by the Constitutional Court that South Africans abroad should have the right to vote.
As Directors-General (DGs) of the Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster, (JCPS) this is our fourth provincial visit. We have come to Mpumalanga to receive reports from our provincial structures, get first hand experience of the challenges they face in the implementation of government programmes as well as note the successes they have obtained. We will also elevate these issues to the executive at national level.
Following the final meeting of the Presidential Economic Joint Working Group today, the committee has released a framework for South Africa's response to the international economic crisis.
