Decision on Kruger National Park land claims

Cabinet has approved the use of equitable redress as the only option for the settlement of outstanding land claims in the Kruger National Park (KNP). The Directors-General of the departments of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) and Land Affairs (DLA) jointly informed the affected community leaders of the claimants in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces on 23 January 2009 of the cabinet decision taken on 3 December 2008.

Government and SANEF meeting of 1 November

A Government delegation led by President Kgalema Motlanthe today met a delegation from the South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) in Pretoria to discuss legislation affecting the media.

The SANEF delegation was led by its Chairperson, Jovial Rantao.

President Motlanthe opened the meeting by affirming the important role of media in our society and committing government to work closely with SANEF to resolve any differences that may arise.

Outcomes of National Gender Machinery (NGM) workshop

The Minister in The Presidency, Minister Tshabalala-Msimang, convened a high-level National Gender Machinery meeting, particularly within the context of the national anti-poverty strategy, on 25-26 October 2008 in Pretoria, South Africa.

The objective of this meeting was to further strengthen and encourage support and co-ordinated action for women’s empowerment and gender equality.

Following the recent changes to the National Executive of the Republic of South Africa, President Kgalema Motlanthe has appointed new members to serve on the board of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Organising Committee of South Africa.

This follows the resignations of former Minister in the Presidency Dr Essop Pahad, former Provincial and Local Government Minister Sydney Mufamadi and former deputy Finance Minister Jabu Moleketi.

Just as the 2008 Beijing Olympics was China's 'coming out' party to showcase its resurgence to the world, so too the 2010 FIFA World Cup will be Africa's major chance to show off the continent's positive attributes.

This was the strong message from senior South African Government officials, the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa (OC) and FIFA as key 2010 figures addressed the world media in Beijing today.
