Government consult political parties and religious sector on developments in COVID-19 response

President Cyril Ramaphosa today, 07 September 2021, chaired meetings of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) and the President’s Coordinating Council to deliberate on developments in the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meetings reflected on the rate of COVID-19 infections and vaccination, and assessed the COVID-19 prevention measures in force under Adjusted Level 3 of the national state of disaster.

Government condemns the killing of women and calls for the fight against GBVF to be intensified

Government strongly condemns the recent senseless and gruesome murders of innocent young women. They include University of Fort Hare law student, Ms Nosicelo Mtebeni (23), whose dismembered body was discovered dumped in a suitcase in Quigney, East London; Ms Palesa Maruping (29), found hanging from the ceiling of a house in Khuma Location near Stilfontein, North West, and Ms Pheliswa “Dolly” Sawutana (32), strangled to death with shoelaces in Kosovo informal settlement in Cape Town, as well as many others not featured in the media.

Government hosts panel discussion on role of women in rebuilding South Africa, 27 Aug

Government sends condolences to struggle hero Mr Dan Sechaba Montsitsi

Government is sadden by passing of 1976 struggle hero, Dan Sechaba Montsitsi. He is reported to have passed away from COVID-19 complications. Government sends its deepest condolence to his family and friends. 

Montsitsi was one of the leaders in the Soweto Student’s Representative Council (SSRC) that led the student marches against the encroachment of Afrikaans language as a medium of instruction in schools. His activism led to him being arrested in June 1977.
