The South Africa Government wishes to advise the nation on the arrangements for the Official Funeral of the late Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize who passed away on Thursday, 16 September 2021.
At the time of her passing, Prof Mkhize was serving as the Deputy Minister in The Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.
President Ramaphosa has accorded Prof Mkhize an Official Funeral Category 2 with police honours.

September is commemorated as Heritage month, celebrating the cultural expressions and practices that form a body of knowledge and provide continuity, dynamism, and meaning to social life. The knowledge-based economy presents new opportunities for Africa and the world to embrace indigenous languages for inclusivity.
The Government Communication and Information Systems together with the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), and the National Press Club will host a webinar to reflect on the state of wastewater treatment plants in South Africa.
The webinar will also reflect on the innovation initiatives to address the current wastewater challenges facing South Africa from a national and municipal perspective and deliberate on scientific research knowledge and insights to ensure water security in the country.
Government Communication and Information System in partnership with I AM South African will host a panel discussion on Economic Freedom as part of heritage month.
The panel discussion aims at calling all South Africans to refocus the lens, creating a new collective culture to strive for ‘liberty and true freedom’ in the context of Heritage.
Deputy Minister in The Presidency, Pinky Kekana will deliver a keynote address during the panel discussion.

A. CABINET DECISIONS

Government thanks all South Africans that exercised their democratic right by taking the first step and registered to vote. More than 23000 voting stations were opened over the weekend to allow new voters to register and existing voters to update and check their details. An online platform to register was also open to South Africans.

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms. Thembi Siweya, and Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, will officially relaunch the Manne Dipico Thusong Centre in Kimberly on 17 September 2021. The centre was recently refurbished and reopened for the public to access various government services.
The centre houses multiple government services that include applications for social grants, identity documents, and municipal and library services.
