Government encourages South Africans to vote

Government reiterates its call to all South Africans to participate in the 2014 elections on Wednesday May 7.

In the spirit of the year-long celebration of 20 Years of Freedom, government joins the nation in anticipating a peaceful day of voting countrywide.

To help ensure this happens, Ministers in the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster have visited various parts of the country in the last two weeks  to determine the state of readiness of the various security structures on the ground.

Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster on elections final state of readiness

Two weeks ago, Government, through the Security Cluster Ministers, announced a detailed plan of ensuring that the elections on the 7th of May 2014 are not only free and fair but are peaceful and secured. The report from security agencies noted that the country is stable and the environment is conducive for successful elections, save for a few areas that have been flagged as hotspots.

JCPS Cluster ministers visit Bekkersdal ahead of national general elections: 3 May

Ministers of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS), will on Saturday, the 3rd of May  visit  Bekkersdal in Gauteng province  in a bid to ensure stability ahead of the elections. 

This is the seventh of a series of visits the ministers are conducting in different provinces; previous visits were conducted in the KwaZulu- Natal and Western Cape , Eastern Cape and Rustenburg in North West.

Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster Western Cape elections hotspots visit

Ministers of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster conducted a visit to the election hotspots in the Western Cape in a bid to ensure stability ahead of the elections. 

The visit was conducted on Wednesday 24 April 2014 and Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa led the delegation. Minister Mthethwa was joined by Minister of State Security, Dr Siyabonga Cwele, Minister of Correctional Services Sbu Ndebele, Minister of Defence Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and Minister of International Relations Nkoana Maite-Mashabane.

The Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa will tomorrow lead a delegation of Ministers in the  Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster, as they assess the state of readiness for the general elections in the Rustenburg area, North West.  The visit forms part of the continued effort the Ministers started this month to ensure stability ahead of the elections.

Government invites all citizens of South Africa to join the Freedom Day celebration

April marks the Freedom Month to commemorate the historic occasion in 1994 when South Africa achieved democracy. South Africa will on the 27 April 2014 celebrate Freedom Day at the Union Buildings under the theme: “South Africa – A Better Place to live in”. The 2014 Freedom Day celebration is the official birthday of 20 Years of Freedom campaign.

JCPS cluster ministers visit Western Cape ahead of national general elections: 24 Apr

Ministers of the  Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS), will visit election hotspots in the Western Cape in a bid to ensure stability ahead of the elections.  Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa will lead the delegation.

The places identified are Manenberg, Hanover Park and Tafelsig.  This is the second of a series of visits the ministers are conducting in different provinces.
