Government welcomes the release of the final report by the Public Protector into the security upgrades at President Jacob Zuma's private residence at Nkandla. Government will reflect on the findings and recommendations contained therein with a view to determining a way forward very soon.
It is important to reiterate critical issues in relation to this matter. Government respects the rule of law and abides by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

During the State of the Nation Address, President Jacob Zuma reflected on how Democratic South Africa’s foreign policy was shaped during the fierce international campaign to isolate the apartheid state. He also emphasised how Africa is at the centre of South Africa’s foreign policy.

The new democratic government inherited a dysfunctional and polarised system which deliberately denied the fundamental rights of the majority of people. The challenge that confronted us was to unite and help transform a nation that was divided across race, class, sex, creed and economic status. In addition, we were faced with the urgent task of ensuring a safer and secure South Africa.
