As I am taking the floor for the first time, let me congratulate the Russian Federation for hosting the 11th INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF HIGH-RANKING OFFICIALS RESPONSIBLE FOR SECURITY MATTERS and the hospitality extended to me and my delegation. On behalf of the government and the people of South Africa, we welcome the opportunity to share our views and insights on this important topic which requires both our individual and collective action.

GCIS strengthens youth empowerment through access to information ahead of Youth Month: 25 and 26 May

The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) will embark on a two-day youth engagement program at KaMaqhekeza township in Nkomazi Local Municipality, Mpumalanga province, between 25 and 26 May 2023.

The event forms part of government’s commitment to ensure that South African citizens are empowered through access to government information.

Government Communications on collection of media accreditation for Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s visit to Eastern Cape

Members of the media who have applied for accreditation to cover Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s visit to the Eastern Cape are advised to collect accreditation cards.

The visit is scheduled to take place on the 26th and 27th May 2023 and areas to be visited include Lusikisiki at OR Tambo District Municipality and Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, both in the Eastern Cape.

Accreditation will be processed at both venues as per the following details:

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Nomasonto Motaung will tomorrow, 25 May deliver Africa Day remarks during Africa Communications Week 2023. The event will be hosted by Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) in partnership with Freedom Park.

The Africa Day session concludes the three day events hosted by South Africa to honour Africa Communications Week under the theme: Agenda 2063, The Africa We Want. Africa Communications Week is a week-long series of events in 20 countries across Africa.

This annual meeting will discuss general trends in the international security situation, including global food security.

Media accreditation for service delivery outreach to Eastern Cape by Deputy President Mashatile

Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) calls on members of the media wishing to cover the forthcoming service delivery outreach programme led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile to the Eastern Cape to apply for accreditation.

Government welcomes African peace leaders mission to Russia and Ukraine

Government has welcomed the initiative by African Heads of State to lead and facilitate peace talks aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The African leaders’ peace mission was presented by President Cyril Ramaphosa to both President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during separate telephone calls.

The principal focus of the mission is to find a peaceful resolution to the devastating conflict in the Ukraine with its cost to human lives and impact on the African continent.
