The Presidency honours late Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu with Official Funeral Category 1

The late Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mphikwa Mthembu will be honoured with an Official Funeral Category 1 at his home in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, on Sunday 24 January 2021.

Minister Mthembu passed away on Thursday, 21 January 2021, from COVID-related complications.

The State, Official and Provincial Official Funeral Policy accords Official Funerals Category 1 to serving Ministers.

The management of departments and entities led by the late Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu will pay their respects through a drive-by visit to his family residence in Ackerville, Witbank today, Friday 22 January 2021 at 15h00.

It is with deep sorrow and shock that we announce that Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu passed away earlier today from COVID-related complications. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of loss. 

Minister Mthembu was an exemplary leader, an activist and life-long champion of freedom and democracy. He was a much-loved and greatly respected colleague and comrade, whose passing leaves our nation at a loss.

Government informs South Africans on the details pertaining to the Special Official Funeral of the His Majesty King Victor Thulare of the BaPedi Kingdom (Kgoshikgolo Thulare).

King Thulare passed away at the age of 40 on Wednesday, 06 January 2021,

He is the son of the late King Rhyne Thulare and was officially recognised by President Cyril Ramaphosa as King of the BaPedi in 2020.

President Ramaphosa has declared that he will be honoured with a Special Official Funeral Category 1.

Government saddened by death of former Deputy Minister of Defence

Government is deeply saddened by the passing of former Deputy Minister of Defence, Mluleki Editor George and conveys its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the nation. Mr George passed on yesterday, 5 January 2020. He served the country as the Deputy Defence Minister with distinction from 29 April 2004 until 25 September 2008. He was a member of parliament in the National Assembly from 1994 until September 2008.
