Government notes and welcomes the three life sentence handed over to former post office worker Luyanda Botha for the rape and murder of Uyinene Mrwetyana.
Botha pleaded guilty to raping and killing UCT student Mrwetyana earlier this year.
Government thanks the police for the sterling work that went into this case and the swift arrest of Botha which culminated into his sentencing today.

The South African Government has noted the ruling of the Gauteng High Court of South Africa (Gauteng Division, Pretoria) regarding the protesters gathered at the UNHCR regional offices in Pretoria. The protesters are prohibited from contravening the by-laws of the City of Tshwane and the laws of South Africa. The government urges the protesters to abide by the decision of the High Court.

As tributes continue to pour in for the late Poet of the People, Sandile Dikeni, and government joins the nation in celebrating the life of this great South African.
Government is saddened by the untimely death of this former civil servant, who passed away on Sunday after a battle with tuberculosis.

Government has successfully piloted the District Development model at the OR Tambo District Municipality in Lusikisiki which has elements of rural spatial development and recently, eThekwini Municipality in Durban which has elements of urban spatial development. The Waterberg District Model is the third and final pilot and it has elements of mining spatial development.

On the 7th November 2019, the Interim Steering Committee on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) held its bi-weekly meeting to discuss the implementation of the GBVF Emergency Action Plan, as well as the management of the funds allocated for its implementation. The Emergency Action Plan unveiled by President Ramaphosa on 18 September aims to combat violence against women and children through a coordinated government and civil society effort.

Government welcomes the Pietermaritzburg High Court sentencing of Sibusiso Mpungose, who received four life terms for killing his three biological children and a stepdaughter. Crime against children and women will not be tolerated. This harsh sentence handed to Mpungose will serve as a warning that abusing and killing defenceless children comes with a heavy price.

The Springboks will kick off their 'Champions Tour' which is a country-wide bus tour with the Webb Ellis Cup in the country on Thursday, November 7. The tour will begin with the Gauteng province, in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Soweto. Thereafter, the tour will visit Durban (Friday, November 8), East London (Saturday, November 9), Port Elizabeth (Sunday, November 10) and concludes in Cape Town on Monday, November 11.
The bus routes are as follows:

Government is today welcoming hundreds of delegates who form part of the 2nd South Africa Investment Conference and it is all systems go for the gathering. President Cyril Ramaphosa is leading government in hosting this momentous conference at the Sandton Convention Centre.
Held under the theme ‘Accelerating Growth by Building Partnerships’, the conference will see delegates gather over three days, from 5 – 7 November 2019 to accelerate the country’s efforts to attract investment.
