Statement on Cabinet meeting of 26 April 2017

Cabinet met on Wednesday, 26 April 2017, at the Union Buildings, on the eve of the 23rd national Freedom Day celebrations. President Jacob Zuma chaired the Cabinet meeting, which welcomed the new Members of the Executive who further complement the existing leadership in government in spear heading implementation of government’s Programme of Action for radical economic transformation and inclusive socio-economic growth.

South African Government at work - National Imbizo Focus Week

The call by the National Development Plan for an active citizenry to realise Vision 2030 was recently given a boost through the sixth (6th) National Imbizo Focus Week, which commenced from Monday, 17 April and closed on Sunday, 23 April 2017 under the theme “Together we move South Africa forward: Our future – make it work”.

Minister of Communications to host a youth dialogue with Gauteng learners: 25 Apr

In commemoration of Freedom Day, celebrated on the 27th April 2017, the Minister of Communications will host a dialogue with learners from various schools in Gauteng.

The purpose of the dialogue is to start on-going discussions with the Youth on what it means for them to “OWN YOUR FREEDOM” and  also cover those areas that are working well and equally those areas that they feel are not working well and would like to see improvements from Government and Corporate South Africa.

2017 Freedom Day celebrations: 27 Apr

South Africa celebrates Freedom Day annually on the 27 April and the theme for this year is “The year of OR Tambo: Together deepening democracy and building safer and crime-free communities”.  The celebrations coincide with the centenary of the late President and national Chairperson of the ANC, Mr Oliver Reginald Tambo, an international icon and hero of the South African liberation struggle.

Deputy Minister Mahambehlala engages with youth at Imbizo Focus Week closing event: 23 Apr

The Deputy Minister of Communications Tandi Mahambehlala will engage young people of the metro as part of the post-SoNA programme and is aimed at galvanising society to actively participate in the implementation of the NDP as a roadmap towards radical socioeconomic transformation and social cohesion. Essentially the purpose is to engage youth and apprise them on government’s Programme of Action as announced during SoNA.

Media arrangements for High-level People-to-People Exchange Mechanism between South Africa and China

South Africa and the People’s Republic of China will launch the high level People-to-People exchange mechanism from 24-26 April 2017. The South African delegation will be led by Minister of Arts and Culture Mr Nathi Mthethwa. The Chinese delegation will be led by Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ms Liu Yandong.
