Government welcomes the 2017 FDI Index ranking

Government welcomes the A.T. Kearney’s 2017 Foreign Direct Investment Confidence report, which indicates that South Africa is the 25th most attractive destination for foreign direct investment global, the first from the African Continent.

Improvements in short-term economic prospects and the long-term investment in the country’s manufacturing have been cited as some of the key drivers of South Africa’s improved rating on the Index.

Government will embark on the 6th National Imbizo Focus Week of the current Administration from 17 to 23 April 2017. President Jacob Zuma has declared 2017 as the year of Oliver Reginald Tambo. This year marks the centenary of the late President and national Chairperson of the ANC, an international icon and hero of the South African liberation struggle.

Government notes peaceful start of planned marches

Government has taken note that planned marches today have started in a peaceful manner by members of the public, civic organisations and some political parties.  Government implores all participants to respect the Constitutional rights of others.

Government has a duty to protect and ensure the safety and security of all people in South Africa. The law enforcement agencies have a Constitutional obligation to protect and ensure all citizens are and feel safe in South Africa.

Government calls for peaceful protests

6 April 2017

Government has noted the planned marches set to take place on Friday, 7 April 2017 and reiterates that it is a normal working day. The planned march and delivery of a memoranda to the Union Buildings, which is a national key point requires that prior written permission is obtained from the Presidency in accordance with the Regulation of Gatherings Act, 1993. Government wishes to confirm that no such request was received by the Director General in the Presidency.
