Government dismisses malicious reporting on Cabinet

Government rejects the mischievous article by the Sunday Independent newspaper, which alleges that President Ramaphosa asked Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula to leave a meeting for being unprepared and failing to read Cabinet memos. These allegations are unfounded and deliberately misleads members of the public.

Speaking on the article, Minister in The Presidency, Mondli Gungubele, said: “Cabinet discussions are confidential. This has been a long-standing convention and thus these allegations are unfounded.

Government congratulates SABC’s Leanne Manas for being honoured with Knight of the French National Order of Merit

The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) would like to congratulate SABC Morning live presenter, Leanne Manas who was bestowed with the Knight of the French National Order Merit. The award was bestowed upon Manas by the Ambassador of France to South Africa, H.E. Mr Aurélien Lechevallier, on behalf of President Emmanuel Macron this week.

Government welcomes corruption sentencing

Government welcomes the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court sentencing of Businessman Veloro Davids and former Ekurhuleni employees Nilesh Singh and Andrew Mphusomadi who were involved in a corrupt IT tender.  David received 10 years for fraud 15 years for corruption and Singh was sentenced to 10 years for fraud and 15 years for corruption.  Mphushomadi, former IT senior manager at Ekurhuleni, was given a 10-year prison sentence, of which four was suspended, for money laundering.

Government puts into context disaster funds

Government notes media reports on an allegation made by the Democratic Alliance at press briefing that the National Treasury has refused to release funds to be used for disaster relief by KwaZulu-Natal provincial government. The allegations levelled against the National Treasury is mischievous and unwarranted at a time when government and society are putting in all efforts to rebuild their lives of those affected by the floods and their livelihoods.
